The Wyoming Rural Electric Association

In 1941 the Wyoming rural electric cooperatives formed the Wyoming Rural Electric Association (WREA) to represent them and their rural electric consumers. Governed by a board of directors the WREA board has one representative from each of the eleven distribution cooperatives and three generation and transmission cooperatives, one co-op one vote.

WREA represents the cooperatives in regulatory matters and legislative issues at state and national levels, monitoring and lobbying for the member cooperatives. A strong “grass roots” legislative involvement has influenced both state and national legislators on many occasions.

WREA publishes the monthly consumer publication, WREN Magazine and a newsletter WREA Today. WREA provides educational seminars for directors and employees, participates in the Youth Tour program through our national organization, and offers scholarships to the public and members for future lineman.

Located in the state’s capitol city Cheyenne, WREA exists as a united representative for its members promoting the cooperative principals and rural electrification for Wyoming.
